Using insurance for mental health care can sometimes mean that an outside company—rather than you and your therapist—has the final say in how long you can be in therapy and what type of care you receive. Insurance providers may limit the number of sessions, require a mental health diagnosis, or request access to your personal health information to approve ongoing treatment.
Paying out of pocket allows you to maintain full control over your therapy experience—your goals, your timeline, and your privacy. None of your information is shared with insurance companies, which helps keep your care entirely confidential.
That said, some insurance plans do offer reimbursement for out-of-network services. We’re happy to provide you with a superbill (an itemized receipt) that you can submit to your insurance for potential partial reimbursement. Please check with your insurance provider directly to confirm your out-of-network benefits.
If using insurance is the best way for you to access care, we understand—and we’re committed to working with you to explore options that make therapy affordable and sustainable.
